Water Soluble Graphite Tree Sketch

The more I play with the water soluble graphite, the more I love it. The process is like a beautiful marriage of drawing and painting. It’s even more fun when I give myself the added challenge of “how many different ways can I use this single pencil?” The possibilities seem endless.

This tree sketch was a tutorial I did for Patreon to demonstrate my full process.

Some of my favorite things are the ability to layer deep values, splattering, and drawing into wet paper. I love how I can achieve gradients, and the ultimate bonus: the final result isn’t shiny like normal graphite!

More to come.
