Painting snow is a wonderful way to practice a variety of techniques.

One thing I love about gouache is the ability to create very intense textures with the simple swipe of the brush. Using dry brush technique (very little water, but load the brush with gouache), you can graze the surface of the paper texture to create this natural rough look (see the water reflection).
