Where I grew up (upstate NY) we had huge snow drifts, usually over two feet, sometimes four feet (or higher). Countless hours of shoveling, adding extra hours to driving anywhere…and many days spent building snowmen and snow caves.

As much work as it is to live with that much snow, it had some wonderful benefits too, and there was something cozy about feeling like your home was hugged by the snow.
