Throughout 2021-2022 I have been on a mission to find the perfect gouache brushes. I have tried dozens – and even started sharing my results and thoughts with you all.
So imagine my delight when Craftamo reached out to me about creating a custom gouache brush set!! Naturally I fell off my chair and screamed in a pitch that only dogs can hear.
And thus the 9 month design process began! After countless back-and-forth discussions, design ideas, beta testing brushes, and communication with Craftamo, the brushes are finally here! (Why do I suddenly feel like I’m giving birth?)
I’ve been using the brushes (the beta ones) for a few months now and just love them. Naturally. I designed the hair softness, thickness, and length to suit my exact needs for painting with gouache. And as a bonus, they work beautifully with watercolor and ink!
Due to my addiction to brushes and prolific sketching habits, I knew exactly what I wanted when it came time to design them.
I admit that I’m a bit of a control freak and knowing my name would be on these brushes made me obsess over every single detail. That’s probably why it took 9 months.
The set features 7 brushes, each with synthentic golden taklon hairs held in place with recycled metal ferrules. The handles are matte turquoise & black motif and printed with the brush size and logo.
The set includes:
4 FLAT BRUSHES
- 3/8 inch
- 1/2 inch
- 3/8 inch
- 1/4 inch
2 ROUND BRUSHES
1 #1 Rigger Brush
The brushes will launch on December 30, 2022. This is a limited edition run, so it’s best to sign up here and get notified when they launch:
In addition to the video above, you can see the brushes in action in some of my recent videos. Just look for the golden hair and turquoise handles!
Here’s one that has lots of juice closeups:
Remember, there aren’t any art supplies that will magically transform you into a good artist. Only your own determination and practice can do that. But there are some supplies that make the journey more enjoyable 🙂
All of your purchases help support my journey!

Congratulations these are beautiful brushes! It must have fun obsessing on every detail,
I’m trying to purchase the brushes as indicated in your post, but the “buy the brushes” doesn’t seem to work. I will continue trying.
