This week I was following the prompts I created in the study guide. It was nice to be able to use the words as inspiration and it put me into a creative mood.
Day 01 – “Ethereal”
It was a sopping wet day, so I painted from the studio. But I repainted an old plein air piece from this video. It was fun to revisit this familiar scene.
Day 02 – “Majestic“
I couldn’t think of a more majestic view than this spot by Findlater Castle!
Day 03 – “Tranquil”
Luckily we finally had a day without rain or wind, so I went to a forest I knew would feel very tranquil. I love painting fallen trees like this. It allows me to focus on the details. By the way this is my new setup! I’ll share it in a future post. It’s a New Wave U.Go Pochade Box 6×8.
Day 04 – “Verdant”
Annnnnnd back to the snow! LOL
I really wanted a long relaxing walk through this lush forest, but it was snowing and raining all day, so once again I painted from the car.
Day 05 – “Glimmering”
This beach at Lossiemouth is always sparkling, no matter what the weather is doing. It was a very stormy day, so I worked fast. I did an exercise called ‘3×3’ which means 3 paintings, 3 minutes each. It’s great for loosening up and getting you out of your head!
Day 06 – “Solitude”
Another stormy day, so I went to the coast to find some peace. I always feel a sense of solitude as I stare out over the sea, especially when huge storms move through. It’s fascinating to watch! These mini gouache sketches were a couple of minutes each. Working fast to capture the quickly changing skies.
Day 07 – “Mystical”
I always feel a sense of wonder and other-worldy mystery when I visit a castle. The ruins of Duffus Castle are closeby so I went there before running errands. I kept it simple with a marker sketch, and it was a good destresser!
And that concludes my month of plein air painting! You can watch this week’s experience in my recent video:
Can’t wait to learn more about your new setup!
