Warm or cool? How color can change the feeling of a painting.

07/100 of my #100daychallenge

Color temperature, or how “warm” or “cool” a color is, plays a huge role in how a painting feels. To me, warmer colors indicate comfort, passion, and life, because that’s what I feel when I see sunshine. To me, cool colors make me feel peaceful, quiet, sometimes tired, and calm. I’ve noticed while painting these snowy scenes, this feeling is even more noticeable. If you look at yesterday’s post, it was very cool in temperature, which made me feel calm. Yet today, the warm light that flows through the trees, contrasted by the cool shadows, makes me feel a burst of energy! Warm sun and cold air…what a great combination!
